The Tampa Bay Lightning are an American professional ice hockey team based in Tampa, Florida. The team plays in the Atlantic division of the Eastern Conference of the NHL. Founded in 1992, the Lightning had their first winning season in 1995–96. They won their first Stanley Cup in 2004, led by Martin St. Louis. After a few struggling seasons, the team has found success with multiple playoff appearances under general manager Steve Yzerman. They also set a franchise record of 50 wins in 2014–15, though they were defeated in the finals against the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Lightning had a historic 2018–19 season with a record-tying 62 wins, but they faced a surprising first-round sweep by the Columbus Blue Jackets. They bounced back impressively, winning the Stanley Cup in 2020 and repeating in 2021. Their pursuit of a three-peat fell short in 2022 when the Colorado Avalanche defeated them in the finals.
