Who won five Stanley Cups in a row
Florida Panthers v Montreal Canadiens

The Stanley Cup is the oldest existing trophy recognized in North America and is awarded annually to the NHL playoff champion. Notably, it became the de facto championship trophy of the NHL in 1926 and became the de jure NHL championship prize in 1947.

Since its introduction to the NHL, the Stanley Cup has been awarded 108 times to 26 different teams, 22 of which are still active in the league. Moreover, the Florida Panthers are the current holders of the Stanley Cup, having won it in 2024 after defeating the Edmonton Oilers.

Teams with five Consecutive Stanley Cup Championships

The only team to make this elusive list are the Montreal Canadiens, who during the late 1950s and early 1960s claimed the championship a record-breaking five times.

Montreal Canadiens 1956-1960

The Montreal Canadiens of those days were quite a dominant force in the league, winning five consecutive Stanley Cup championships between 1956 and 1960.

The remarkable streak started in 1956 when they achieved victory over the Detroit Red Wings, followed by the Boston Bruins in 1957 and again in 1958. This was followed by victories over the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1959 and 1960. Notably, they also finished the regular season with the best overall record in four of those seasons. Moreover, Jean Beliveau led the league in scoring during the 1955-1956 season while Dickie Moore ranked on top in scoring twice during the 1957-58 and 1958-59 seasons. Legendary players like Bernard "Boom" Geoffrion and the iconic Richard brothers, Maurice and Henri, Doug Harvey, and Tom Johnson also contributed a lot to the team's success. Remarkably, Jacques Plante won the Vezina Trophy as the top goaltender of the league in all of those seasons.

Moreover, in those five years, the Canadiens never trailed in a playoff series, let alone getting pushed to Game 7 of a series. They also averaged more than 40 wins per season and had 25 All-Star selections alongside 15 Individual trophy winners. Notably, the Montreal Canadiens went to to claim 12 more Stanley Cups after this, including four consecutive wins between 1976 and 1979.
