A cricket captain is the team's leader both on and off the field. The IPL is no exception. There have been several IPL captains over the years, some of them have been highly successful and others have not.

With five IPL championships under their belt, CSK’s MS Dhoni and MI’s Rohit Sharma are the joint-most successful captains’ in the cash-rich league’s history.

Ahead of IPL 2024, here's a look at the men who will be leading the 10 franchises in the 16th edition-

IPL 2024 Captain - Hardik Pandya

After leading the Gujarat Titans to a title win in their inaugural season, all-rounder Hardik Pandya will return to the Mumbai Indians this season. The Baroda all-rounder was snapped up by MI via an all-cash deal (INR 15 Crores) with the Adani-led Titans.

Additionally, Mumbai Indians traded Australian all-rounder Cameron Green to the Royal Challengers Bangalore (INR 17.5 Crores). Following the deal, MI announced that Hardik would replace Rohit Sharma as captain of the franchise from IPL 2024.

CSK IPL 2024 Captain - MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni will captain the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2024. Dhoni has been the franchise’s skipper since 2008. Like MI, CSK have achieved much success under their current skipper.

Dhoni has led the Super Kings to five IPL titles and two Champions League T20 trophies. He won his fifth IPL trophy in Ahmedabad in what proved to be an emotional finale last year.

SRH IPL 2024 Captain - Pat Cummins

Aiden Markram, who has led the SunRisers Eastern Cape to back-to-back SA20 titles, captained The Orange Army last season, is no longer the captain.

His debut season as SRH captain proved to be a disaster as the 2016 champions claimed the wooden spoon in IPL 2023 after managing just four victories in 14 outings.

The former champions have named Australian Test and ODI captain Pat Cummins as their skipper for IPL 2024. The fast bowler was picked at the mini-auctions for a whopping INR 20.5 Crores.

LSG IPL 2024 Captain - KL Rahul

KL Rahul will lead the Lucknow SuperGiants in IPL 2024. The Indian international has led the franchise to consecutive playoffs during his stint, and he hopes to go one step ahead during the forthcoming season.

Following Hardik Pandya’s departure, the 2022 IPL Champions roped in star opener Shubman Gill for the captaincy role. The stylish batsman will lead the Titans in IPL 2024.

Gill had a fairytale IPL 2023 as a batsman. The right-hander won the coveted Orange Cap after smashing 890 runs in 17 innings @ 59.33/157.8 with the help of four 50s and three 100s. The upcoming season will be a challenging one for the young opener as he will have a dual responsibility of leading the team and setting the tone with the bat at the top of the order.

KKR IPL 2024 Captain - Shreyas Iyer

After missing out on IPL 2023 due to a back injury, Shreyas Iyer will be back at the helm as leader of the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Iyer has endured tumultuous times recently, but he would be motivated to put everything behind him and spearhead the two-time champions to glory via his leadership skills, and of course, with the bat.

RCB IPL 2024 Captain - Faf du Plessis

Faf du Plessis will continue to lead the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2024.

In his maiden season as captain, RCB made its way to the playoffs, where they broke their "Eliminators" hoodoo against the Lucknow SuperGiants. They were eventually beaten by eventual finalists, Rajasthan Royals in Q2.

However, the former Proteas skipper failed to repeat a similar feat in IPL 2023, as RCB fell agonisingly short of making it to the top-4.

On a personal front, Faf had a memorable season. The champion opener finished as the second-highest leading run-getter. In 14 innings, he scored 730 runs @ 56.15/153.68 with eight 50+ scores.

DC IPL 2024 Captain - Rishabh Pant

After missing out on IPL 2023 due to a near-fatal car accident, champion wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant will be back to lead the Delhi Capitals.

IPL 2024 will mark the return of Pant to competitive cricket. The 25-year-old has been out of action since December 2022 following an unfortunate car accident.

Not only DC fans, but the entire cricketing fraternity will wait with bated breath to see the return of one of the most exciting cricketers of the modern era.

PBKS IPL 2024 Captain - Shikhar Dhawan

Veteran Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan will continue to lead the Punjab Kings in the forthcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

PBKS endured another forgettable campaign last year as they blew hot and cold consistently. The Punjab-based franchise finished at the 8th spot after managing just 6 victories in 14 outings.

Dhawan, meanwhile, finished as the leading run-getter for the franchise. The southpaw racked up 373 runs in 11 innings @ 41.44/142.91 with three 50+ scores.

RR IPL 2024 Captain - Sanju Samson

Stylish Kerala wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson will continue to lead the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the forthcoming season of the IPL.

Samson endured a poor season last year as he blew more cold than hot. The enigmatic batsman ran out of steam as the season progressed. In 14 innings, Sanju could only manage 362 runs @ 30.16/153.58 with 1 50+ score.

Samson’s performance with the bat proved to be a mirror image of his team’s performance as thinauguralal champions lost the ploduringnt the second half of IPL 2023. They eventually finished at the fifth spot in the points table.
