Originally established as the Westchester Classic in 1967, the FedEx St. Jude Championship is a PGA Tour professional golf event. Only the top 70 players on the FedEx Cup points list at the conclusion of the regular season are eligible to compete; formerly, the top 125 players were included.
Since 2007, it has served as the inaugural FedEx Cup playoff event. Previously known as The Northern Trust, The Barclays, and the Buick Classic, the tournament changed its name due to sponsorship. Nearly $50 million has been raised for charities in the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area since the tournament's founding in 1967, with a record $1.865 million coming in 2018.
Up until 2007, the Westchester Classic was held at the Westchester Country Club in Harrison, New York. After that, it rotated around a number of courses in New Jersey and New York. The PGA Tour declared in 2018 that The Northern Trust, as it was then called, would alternate between the Boston and New York/New Jersey regions starting in 2019.
In 2020, it was hosted at TPC Boston. FedEx became the new title sponsor of the tournament, which was renamed the FedEx St. Jude Championship and moved to TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee, for the 2021–2022 season.
The event has been won by many of the best players in the world, including Dustin Johnson, Sergio García, Adam Scott, Jason Day, Matt Kuchar, Patrick Reed, and Bryson DeChambeau.
Who won the PGA FedEx St. Jude Championship in 2023?
Lucas Glover won the FedEx St. Jude Championship in 2023. Glover triumphed at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee, to capture his fifth PGA Tour title. The $3,600,000 winner's share of the $20,000,000 purse was awarded to him.
Glover defeated Patrick Cantlay in a playoff to win the tournament after both players finished regulation at 15-under 265. Cantlay teed off first in the playoff on the par-4 18th hole and found the water. On his third attempt, he found the green, putting himself in position to beat Glover's birdie putt by a few inches on the same line.
Glover made a simple par, and then Cantlay's putt missed just to the right of the hole to give Glover a win. Finishing tied for third place were Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood.
