Elias Pettersson is a Swedish professional ice hockey player and alternate captain for the Vancouver Canucks in the National Hockey League (NHL), as of February 2025. Selected by the Vancouver Canucks as the fifth overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft, Pettersson made a memorable NHL debut on October 3, 2018, scoring a goal and providing an assist against the Calgary Flames. A highlight of his early career came on November 2, 2018, when he achieved a five-point night (two goals, three assists) in a 7-6 overtime victory against the Colorado Avalanche.

According to Statmuse, Pettersson recorded another five-point game (one goal, four assists) against the St. Louis Blues on December 9, 2018. He secured his first NHL hat trick by scoring three goals against the Ottawa Senators on January 2, 2019. He was selected to play in the NHL All-Star game in both the 2019 and 2020 NHL seasons. Pettersson ended his rookie season with 66 points (28 goals, 38 assists) in 71 games, securing the Calder Trophy as the NHL's top rookie. Pettersson contributed five points (two goals, three assists) in a 6-5 victory against the Seattle Kraken on December 22, 2022. Notably, his 30th goal of the 2022-23 season marked his 300th NHL point (127 goals, 173 assists) in 306 games. This achievement made him the second-fastest player in Canucks history to reach this milestone, trailing only Pavel Bure (246 games) and surpassing Alexander Mogilny (307 games).
