Weidman made headlines worldwide when he defeated ‘The Spider’ Anderson Silva for the UFC Middleweight Championship title and ended Silva's 16-fight winning streak and reign as champion. Weidman's reign ended in December 2015 when he lost to Luke Rockhold via TKO, marking his first career defeat. He attempted to regain his momentum, facing various opponents and enduring injuries. He moved up to the Light Heavyweight division in 2019 but suffered a knockout loss to Dominick Reyes. Weidman then returned to Middleweight and secured a victory against Omari Akhmedov in August 2020.
