The Panthers remain the newest franchise in the NFC (National Football Conference) as of 2024. Let’s look at some of the changes that the team has gone through since their inception.
The Evolution of the Carolina Panthers Logo
Since its inception, Carolina has never altered the head of Panther. It has remained a permanent fixture in the primary emblem to date. Carolina’s owner at the time of its establishment named the team after a Panther as he believed the football team should be powerful, sleek and strong like a Panther.
1995 - 2011 - Old Logo
Jerry Richardson who was the owner of Carolina Panthers at the time introduced this logo. The color scheme for this logo has been blue, silver and black ever since its establishment. The emblem has a roaring black/blue panther head in it with silver eyes, whiskers, nose and teeth. There is a thin black outline on the logo. The logo was made in such a way that it resembled the shape of North Carolina and South Carolina.
2012 - Present - Current Logo
The only slight change came to the design of the logo in 2012. They made the logo more sleek and modernized by removing silver from the panthers' whiskers and nose. Even the thin black outline was removed. The blue used this time around was brighter in shade.
Carolina Panthers Alternative Symbols
The Panthers have gone through various iterations when it comes to alternate logos but the aesthetics of each one remain the same. They have had roaring panther logos without a neck portion in different color schemes like white, blue and black same as the primary one. The other design that they incorporated had a full panther in it.
Various other designs had Carolina’s primary logo with a wordmark of the full team name.
Carolina Panthers Anniversary Emblems
Even though the team is only 30 years old into its existence, the Panthers have celebrated each of their 10th, 20th and 30th anniversary by churning out logos on those occasions.
2004
The team celebrated its 10th anniversary by unveiling a trophy-like template logo which had ‘10’ and Panthers’ primary logo on it in blue color. ‘10’ was in the middle of Carolina’s primary emblem and ‘ANNIVERSARY’ wordmark.
2014
The emblem has the same trophy-like template but a modernized version. The logo has ‘20’ printed on it in a silver color with a light blue ribbon which reads ‘SEASONS’ on it. At the top of a shield/trophy-like structure is the Panthers’ current logo.
2024
In the upcoming 2024 season, Carolina will be celebrating their 30th anniversary. The logo has ‘30’ in a big white font with a light blue outline. Below the font, the ‘SEASONS’ wordmark is present. The Panthers logo is put between them.
Carolina Panthers Helmet Design
The Carolina Panthers have never messed with the aesthetics when it comes to their primary helmet in 3 decades. However, in recent years, they have come out with a couple of different alternate helmets.
1995 - 2011 - Old Helmet
The Panthers have used the same color palette on their helmet as their jersey and have never altered it. The base is silver with two black lines passing down the middle with blue trim on either side of them. The logo is pasted on both sides of the helmet.
2012 - Present - Current Helmet
Only the logo on the helmet got slightly changed. Everything else remained the same.
Alternate Helmets
Carolina came out with the alternate version in 2023 for the first time in franchise history. The base color was changed to black while the Panthers' primary logo which was stuck on both sides of the helmet had no silver in it. The decorative running through the middle had only two light blue stripes in it.
Carolina Panthers Uniform History
The Carolina Panthers have not gone through many iterations when it comes to their home and away uniforms. However, they have come up with some nice alternate jerseys in their franchise history.
1995 - 2011 - Old Uniforms
2012 - Present - Current Uniforms
The current uniforms of the Panthers did not see any major changes except the logo on the sleeves changed since the 2012 rebranding. Everything else has remained untouched.
Alternate Uniforms
The Panthers have only come out with one alternate look in their franchise history. The base color is Carolina’s blue with black shoulder stripes having a silver outline. The pants are also of the same color with silver/black/silver stripes running on both sides. The numbering is white with a black outline. However, in 2023, the blue color got just a bit darker in shade than the previous version.
