The tournament regained momentum when it was relocated to the Coney Island amusement park on the Ohio River in 1975. It was a significant event on the men's Grand Prix Tennis Tour between 1981 and 1989 and a component of the Grand Prix Super Series.

When the tournament moved to Mason in 1979, a permanent stadium was constructed there, and the Har-Tru clay playing field was replaced with a hardcourt. The women's competition was brought back in 1988 and 2004, and a new Court 3 was constructed in 2010 as well.

Western & Southern Financial Group sponsored the tournament for the first time in 2002, up until 2016. The Western & Southern Financial Group Masters and Women's Open became the Western & Southern Open in 2011, when the men's and women's tournaments were held during the same week.
