Cronin started his hockey coaching journey in 1987, working at Colby College as an assistant coach and later served at the University of Maine before joining the Colorado College in 1991. He returned to Maine, taking the role of temporary head coach in 1995-1996. After that, he coached in the USNTDP Juniors.
