Born on December 18, 1998, he was selected by the Dallas Stars as the 26th overall pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. Growing up, he attended Lakeville North High School and later committed to the USA National Team Development Program (USNTDP) to pursue a career in ice hockey.
After playing two seasons at USNTDP, he committed to Boston University. During his freshman season at Boston, he posted a 2.11 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage, earning awards such as Hockey East Goaltender of the Month and All-Rookie Team honors.
