Kaapo Kakko is a Finnish professional ice hockey forward for the New York Rangers of the NHL. Born on February 13, 2001, Kakko was drafted second overall by the Rangers in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, making him one of his class' most highly anticipated prospects. He signed his three-year entry-level contract with the Rangers in July 2019 and made his NHL debut on October 3, 2019. Just nine days later, he scored his first NHL goal against the Edmonton Oilers, becoming the eighth player in Rangers history to score a goal at 18 or younger. In the 2022-2023 season, Kakko played all 82 games for the Rangers and scored his career-high 18 goals. As of 2024, Kakko is under his second contract with the Rangers which he signed in 2023.
