The New York Islanders is a professional ice hockey team based in Emont, New York. They compete in the NHL under the Metropolitan Division of the Eastern Conference. The Islanders was established in 1972 and is one of the most successful franchises in the NHL with four Stanley Cups, six Conference and six Division championships. The team has played 52 seasons in the NHL and appeared in 30 playoffs, five Stanley Cup finals with Stanley Cup championships. The Islanders are led by general manager Lou Lamoriello, head coach Patrick Roy, and captain Anders Lee and play their home games at the state-of-the-art UBS Arena. They have two minor league affiliations Bridgeport Islanders of the AHL and Worcester Railers of the ECHL.

Scott Malkin, the owner of New York Islanders Hockey Club, L.P serves as governor of the team and Jon Ledecky serves as the alternate governor. In October 2014, the businessmen Scott D. Malkin and Jon Ledecky purchased the New York Islanders from Charles Wang. They acquired the rights of the team for $485M from Wang, who retained a share of the franchise. Initially, they served as minority partners before formally announcing their control at the end of the 2015-1016 season.

The New York Islanders have gone through many ownership changes throughout its history. Charles Wang and Sanjay Kumar, former owners of the team, acquired ownership of the New York Islanders from Milstein and Gluckstern in 2000. Milstein and Gluckstern took control of the team in 1997. Before that, John Pickett enjoyed the rights of the team from 1878-1991.
