The 2024 NHL Entry Draft will mark its 62nd year in NHL history. The event is scheduled to take place on June 28-29, 2024, at the Sphere in Las Vegas. The teams that did not make the Stanley Cup playoffs have a better chance of winning the first pick, with the odds varying based on their regular-season performance. However, the rules were adjusted later. The chances for the bottom four teams to win the lottery were reduced, while the chances for the other non-playoff teams were increased.
In 2021-22, the NHL reduced the number of lottery draws from three to two. Now, teams that win a lottery can move up a maximum of ten spots in the draft order, and a team can only win the lottery twice in five years.
