Pete DeBoer, named head coach of the Dallas Stars on June 21, 2022, is only the second coach in NHL history to lead four different franchises to the conference finals or semifinals (Dallas, Vegas, San Jose, and New Jersey). In his first two seasons, he led the Stars to consecutive Western Conference Final appearances with a combined regular-season record of 99-42-23 and a 20-18 playoff record.

Before Dallas, DeBoer coached the Vegas Golden Knights from 2020 to 2022, reaching the Western Conference Final in 2020 and the semifinal in 2021. He also led San Jose from 2015 to 2019, guiding them to four playoff appearances and their first Stanley Cup Final in 2016. He coached New Jersey from 2011 to 2014 and Florida from 2008 to 2011. DeBoer has a career record of 612-421-146 over 1,179 NHL games and ranks first in regular season wins and games coached since entering the league in 2008-09.

Peter DeBoer has made two Stanley Cup Final appearances as a head coach. His first was in 2012 with the New Jersey Devils, who lost to the Los Angeles Kings. His second was in 2016 with the San Jose Sharks, who lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins. DeBoer has made the Stanley Cup Playoffs nine times in his 16-year NHL coaching career. He has reached at least the third round seven times, including five straight seasons from 2019 to 2024.
