Hailing from Edwardsville, Illinois, Kate Martin is a combo guard who is signed with the Golden State Valkyries of the WNBA. Before WNBA, Martin had a successful college career at Iowa, playing alongside Caitlin Clark. Martin and Clark started 139 consecutive games together which is the longest streak in NCAA Division I basketball in the last 25 years. Although Martin had a great college career, her college journey started with a setback as she tore her left ACL which resulted in her missing the entire 2018–19 season.

In Martin’s freshman season for the Hawkeyes, she only played 24 games before the COVID-19 pandemic ended the season early. During her sophomore year, Martin was named team captain and started playing alongside Caitlin Clark in the backcourt. During the 2020-21 season, Martin averaged 7 points and 4 assists per game and won the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award that season. In her junior year of 2021-22, Kate Martin helped Iowa win the Big Ten Tournament and was named to Academic All-Big Ten honors as she maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout the year. Martin’s senior season saw her reach the championship game for the first time in Iowa's history, though they lost to LSU. As a redshirt senior in 2023-24, Martin averaged 13.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game, with a career-high 50.7% field goal percentage and a 37.0% three-point percentage. After her sixth season at Iowa, Kate Martin was drafted by the Las Vegas Aces in 2024 and later that year, she was selected by the Golden State Valkyries in the expansion draft.
