Tanisha Lovely Wright is a women’s basketball player and a coach in the WNBA. Wright’s professional basketball career lasted 14 years in the WNBA where she was a guard for the Seattle Storm, New York Liberty, and the Minnesota Lynx. She was nominated as a member of the WNBA All-Defensive First Team 5 times and twice as a member of the WNBA All-Defensive Second Team. Wright played for the Seattle Storm and won the WNBA Championship in the year 2010. Before her professional career, she had a great college career at Pennsylvania State University where she was a three-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and a First Team All-American.

However, Wright improved her knowledge when she transitioned to coaching. She started as the assistant coach at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and with the Las Vegas Aces. In 2021 she was hired as the head coach of the Atlanta Dream which made her the fifth head coach in the team’s history. Wright’s first season with the Dream was quite successful as she took the team to its most wins since 2018 and was awarded the Associated Press Coach of the Year.

Tanisha Wright played college basketball for the Pennsylvania State University from the year 2001 to 2005. She was a guard and was most recognized for her defensive prowess on the court. Wright was a three-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year 2003/2004/2005. During her college years, she played basketball for four years and scored an average of 14.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game. Wright was also quite a scorer and she scored a total of 1,995 points putting her fourth in the list of all-time scorers at Penn State. Her most illustrious season in terms of scoring came in the 2004-05 season, wherein she averaged a whopping 19.3 points per game in the 30 games she played that season. Wright took the Penn State Lady Lions to the NCAA tournament several times and even reached the Elite Eight in her junior season. That season she was instrumental in leading her team to victories over highly ranked teams but lost to Connecticut, the eventual national champions. Wright’s consistency in her performance saw her being named the First-Team All-Big Ten three times. Her impact at Penn State is remembered by her defensive prowess, scoring prowess and ability to lead which makes her one of the most decorated players in the history of the program.
