The Internationaux de Strasbourg is a professional women's tennis tournament that takes every Year in Strasbourg, France. It is an International-level outdoor event of the WTA Tour which is played just a week prior to the French Open which serves as a warm-up event to it. This event is also officially known as the Strasbourg Grand Prix. The 2019 of Internationaux de Strasbourg will be played from May 18 to May 25, 2019.
The tournament was founded 32 years back in 1987 where the Canadian player Carling Bassett defeated Sandra Cecchini from Italy by a margin of 6-3, 6-4 in the finals to grab the title in the women's singles category. In the doubles category, Jana Novotna (Czech Republic) and Catherine Suire (France) won the trophy after defeating the pair of Kathleen Horvath (USA) and Marcella Mesker (Netherlands) by 6-0, 6-2.
Some of the greatest players that have played in this tournament and have emerged as the champions are former world number ones Steffi Graf (singles), Jennifer Capriati (singles), Lindsay Davenport (two singles, one doubles), Martina Navratilova (doubles) and Maria Sharapova (singles).
This tournament is clay (outdoor) court event which used to be played at the played at the Hautepierre but later it was to the Strasbourg’s Tennis Club in 2011 and has remained its official venue since then.
A total prize money of $226,750 has been officially announced that will be awarded to the various players of different categories according to their finishing position at the end of the tournament.
