About Strasbourg 2023

The Internationaux de Strasbourg is a professional women's tennis tournament that takes every year in Strasbourg, France. It is an 250 level outdoor event on the WTA tour which is played just a week prior to the French Open and serves as a warm-up for the claycourt Major. This event is also sometimes called the Strasbourg Grand Prix. The 2021 edition of the Internationaux de Strasbourg will be played from 23 to 29 May 2021.

History

The tournament was founded 32 years back in 1987, where Canadian player Carling Bassett defeated Sandra Cecchini from Italy by a margin of 6-3, 6-4 in the finals to grab the title in the women's singles category. In the doubles category, Jana Novotna (Czech Republic) and Catherine Suire (France) won the trophy after defeating the pair of Kathleen Horvath (USA) and Marcella Mesker (Netherlands) 6-0, 6-2.

Past Winners

Some of the greatest players that have participated in this tournament and have emerged as the champions are Steffi Graf (singles), Jennifer Capriati (singles), Lindsay Davenport (two singles, one doubles), Martina Navratilova (doubles) and Maria Sharapova (singles).

Venue

This tournament is a claycourt event which used to be played at the Hautepierre initially. But in 2011 it was shifted to the Strasbourg Tennis Club, which has remained its official venue since then.

Prize Money

A total prize money of $226,750 has been officially announced that will be awarded to the various players of different categories according to their finishing position at the end of the tournament.

Some of the players that are expected to grab the attention in this season of the tournament are Bianca Andreescu (Canada), Jessica Pegula (USA) and Sorana Cirstea (Romania).
