Hintz began his career in the Liiga with Ilves organization before joining the Empire Junior Hockey League with the Tampa Bay Juniors during the 2012-13 season. Hintz spent the next few seasons between the NAHL and the Ilves organization. He rose to fame with an astounding season with the Ilves scoring 5 goals and recording 17 points in 42 games. Taking notice of his performance, the NHL Central Scouting Bureau ranked him as one of the top rated European skaters available.

The Dallas Stars selected him in the second round (49th overall) of the NHL Entry Level draft in 2015. Hintz was assigned to the Texas Stars before being called up to the NHL on October 4, 2028, playing 9:59 minutes in a 3-0 win over the Arizona Coyotes. He has since developed himself as a vital member of the Stars’ line-up.
