In a day and age where the single-handed backhand is gradually fading away, Grigor Dimitrov is a veteran keeping the art alive. The Bulgarian professional tennis player continues to be in the world’s top 10 at 33. Having achieved a career-high ranking of World No. 3, Dimitrov has won nine singles titles as of March 2025. Moreover, he is a Grand Slam semi-finalist in three of the four Majors. He won a solitary title in 2024, which came in Brisbane, Australia. He advanced to the semifinal of the 2025 Miami Open, outcasting Francisco Cerundolo in the quarterfinals by 6-7, 6-4, 7-6.

Nicknamed ‘Baby Fed’ by a large chunk of the tennis fraternity, Grigor Dimitrov was born on May 16, 1991, in Haskovo, Bulgaria. A former junior No. 1, Dimitrov won consecutive boys’ majors at the 2008 Wimbledon and 2008 US Open. He turned pro that same year and became the first Bulgarian man to win an ATP singles title. Moreover, the 33-year-old won the ATP Finals in 2017. Grigor Dimitrov has been a consistent performer on the ATP circuit for close to 15 years now. As a result, he was named Bulgarian Sportsperson of the Year in 2014 and 2017. Having started playing tennis at a young age with his father, who is a tennis coach, Dimitrov idolized Tiger Woods as an athlete. As of March 2025, he has earned over $29.3 million via prize money (ATP official website), earning him a spot among the top 20 prize money winners of all time.

Jamie Delgado and Daniel Vallverdu are the coaches of Bulgarian tennis star Grigor Dimitrov. While Delgado is a former British professional tennis player, Vallverdu is a Venezuelan coach.

Jamie Delgado is a Birmingham-born former player who became a coach in 2014. He began working with Grigor Dimitrov in 2022, and their alliance has continued for over two years. Delgado holds the all-time men’s record for consecutive Wimbledon tournaments played. Before coaching Dimitrov, the Brit worked with the likes of Andy Murray and Denis Shapovalov. As a player, Delgado had a career-high ranking of World No. 121.

Daniel Vallverdu is a coach and the tournament director of the Mubadala Citi Open in Washington. In 2024, he was also the director of the Next Gen ATP Finals and WTA Finals in Saudi Arabia. Like Delgado, Vallverdu also worked with Andy Murray - he was part of Murray’s setup when the Brit won gold at the London Olympics. He also coached Tomas Berdych before joining hands with Grigor Dimitrov in 2016 and then again in 2022.

Grigor Dimitrov has been working with Jamie Delgado and Daniel Vallverdu for over two years. However, he is also accompanied by some support staff members who enable him to remain active and competitive during the season.

Azdine Bousnana is reportedly the physiotherapist of Grigor Dimitrov. While there is no confirmation regarding when they began working together and whether they are still collaborating, Bousnana has seemingly been on Dimitrov’s team for over half a decade. Additionally, Durand is the trainer of Grigor Dimitrov. He has previously worked with Serena Williams on her training program.
