Brent Burns is a Canadian ice hockey defenseman who plays for the Carolina Hurricanes in the NHL. He began his career with the Minnesota Wild, who selected him 20th overall in the 2003 NHL Draft. Burns made his NHL debut on October 8, 2003, against the Chicago Blackhawks and scored his first NHL goal shortly after.

Over his career, Burns has achieved numerous milestones, including setting records for the Wild and Sharks, winning the Norris Trophy in 2017 as the NHL's best defenseman, and leading all defensemen in points during the 2018-19 season with 83 points. Brent Burns Professional Career

Brent Burns began his professional hockey career when he was drafted 20th overall by the Minnesota Wild in the 2003 NHL Draft. Initially drafted as a winger, Burns transitioned to defense during his time with Minnesota. He developed into one of the team’s top players, with a career-high 43 points in the 2007–08 season. Burns faced multiple injuries, including concussions, which affected his play in later seasons.

In 2011, he was traded to the San Jose Sharks, where he became one of the NHL's top defensemen. Burns won the Norris Trophy as the league's best defenseman in 2017. He signed an eight-year contract in 2016 and helped the Sharks reach the Stanley Cup Final in 2016. Burns was traded to the Hurricanes in 2022. He reached his 1,300th career game in January 2023, continuing to be a valuable asset to his team.
