Cale Douglas Makar is an ice hockey professional defenceman, playing with the Colorado Avalanche in the National Hockey League (NHL), as of January 2025. His professional hockey career started with the Colorado Avalanche in the 2017 NHL Entry draft.

Makar played two seasons with the UMass Minutemen in the NCAA before his selection in the NHL. During the 2020-21 NHL season, Makar was also nominated for the James Norris Memorial Trophy, an award that is given to the NHL's best defenseman. Although his NHL rights are held by the Avalanche, he remains unsigned.

According to Elite Prospects, during his junior career, Makar played with the NWCAA Bronks, Calgary Flames U15 AAA, NWCAA Stampeders, and Brooks Bandits in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL). In college hockey, he started at the University of Massachusetts (UMass) and later transferred to the University of Maine, where he plays, as of 2025.
