Where is Carter Verhaeghe from?

Carter Verhaeghe is a talented Canadian hockey player from Toronto, Ontario. He plays as a center and left winger for the Florida Panthers in the NHL. Verhaeghe began his hockey journey with North Wentworth MHA and later stood out with the Niagara IceDogs in the OHL. Drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2013, he played in the AHL and ECHL before making his NHL mark. A champion of two Stanley Cups, Verhaeghe has become a key player in the NHL.

Verhaeghe is from Waterdown, Ontario. His journey to the NHL started in his hometown. During high school, he played for the St. Mary Catholic Secondary School Crusaders in the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic league, where he played alongside future NHLer Mark Jankowski. The duo led the Crusaders to victory in the 2010 Hamilton Junior Cup, with Verhaeghe even playing on the senior team in Grade 10.

That same year, he also played for the Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs in the South Central Triple-A Hockey League. His strong play earned him a selection by the Niagara IceDogs, 38th overall, in the 2011 OHL Priority Selection.

Carter Verhaeghe was proudly welcomed in his hometown after he won the Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers in 2024. Hundreds of fans lined up at the Harry Howell Arena to see him and the trophy up close. For many kids in the crowd, seeing someone from their own town make it to the NHL was truly inspiring. Verhaeghe shared what it meant to return home, saying, "It's great to share with everyone that helped me growing up here" he shared with CBC News.
