Jakob Chychrun is a professional ice hockey two-way defenseman, playing for the Washington Capitals of the NHL, as of May 2025. Born on March 31, 1998, in Boca Raton, Florida, he began playing with the Florida Jr. Panthers before moving to Canada to further his development. He played minor hockey with the Toronto Jr. Canadiens. Chychrun started his Major junior hockey career after being drafted as the first overall pick by the Sarnia Sting in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection. He was named as an alternate captain in his debut season. Over his two seasons in the OHL, Chychrun appeared in 104 games and accumulated 82 points, as per Elite Prospects.

Chychrun was drafted 16th overall by the Arizona Coyotes in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut the same year as an 18-year-old. He scored his first NHL goal on October 20, 2016, against the Montreal Canadiens. After playing seven years for the Coyotes, Chychrun was traded to the Ottawa Senators during the 2022-23 NHL season.
