Logan Cooley is an American professional ice hockey center who plays for the Utah Hockey Club in the NHL as of October 2024. He was born May 4, 2004, and drafted third overall by the Arizona Coyotes in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. Cooley quickly established himself as one of the league’s top young talents. Before turning pro, he excelled with the University of Minnesota, earning honors like the Big Ten Scoring Champion and AHCA West First Team All-American. Internationally, Cooley has been an impact player for Team USA, most notably leading in scoring with 14 points at the 2023 World Junior Championship, where he won a bronze medal. After impressing at the Coyotes’ 2023 training camp, he made his NHL debut with a multi-assist game and scored his first NHL goal soon after. Following the 2023-24 season, he joined the Utah Hockey Club due to team asset transfers.

Logan Cooley parents

Logan Cooley was born to Eric Sr. and Cathy Cooley. They have four kids three sons and one daughter. All Cooley brothers are involved in ice hockey. His parents played a crucial role in his journey to becoming a top NHL prospect. Growing up in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, hockey was a family affair in the Cooley household, with Cathy Cooley’s brothers having played college hockey themselves as per The Rink Live. From a young age, Logan was engaged in the sport, often accompanying his mother to watch his uncles’ games, which sparked his early love for the ice.

Eric and Cathy Cooley wanted their sons to grow up with hockey, so they put in a lot of effort to create a backyard rink, even though Pennsylvania winters were warmer than ideal for ice. “His uncle was able to get a small chilling unit, and it would work up to 50 degrees" Erick Sr. said in an interview with The Live Rink. This homemade rink became a special place for family memories and helped Logan develop his skills early on. Cathy Cooley remembers Logan watching his older brothers, Eric and Riley Cooley, waiting patiently for his turn. His brothers didn’t go easy on him, they’d rough him up and throw him into snowbanks, but Logan took it all easy.

Logan Cooley siblings

Logan Cooley has three siblings, older brothers Eric and Riley and younger sister Lauren Cooley. His brothers played a huge role in his development and were involved in ice hockey. Logan looked up to them and tried to follow in their footsteps, even when he was too young to play himself. Watching his brothers practice at the Rostraver Ice Garden in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, Logan was inspired by the older players and longed to join them. "Seeing the older guys out there on the ice just made me want to be out there so bad. I really think that’s what started my love of hockey,” Logan recalled in an interview with gophnx.com.

Eric and Riley didn’t go easy on their younger brother, but instead, toughened him up, treating him like any other competitor. They'd play rough, tossing Logan into snowbanks or challenging him in their neighborhood games on the homemade outdoor rink. "Maybe 25 percent of the games actually finished because the rest ended in a fight," Riley said with a laugh. "Most of the time, it was me starting the fight, but everyone had their moments.”

Eric shared, “I don’t remember a time when Logan wasn’t just really good. Even when he was younger, he was always so far ahead of the kids his age” he shared with gophnx.com.

Now Eric is working as a sales representative at Cintas as per his LinkedIn profile. He played professional hockey with the Chicago Wolves of the AHL and Norfolk Admirals of the ECHL.

Riley Cooley played youth hockey, progressing through Pittsburgh Penguins Elite teams before joining the NAHL's New Mexico Ice Wolves in 2019-20 Elite Sports. He continues to support his younger brother Logan's NHL journey.

''Now I have just been trying to support him every way I can… but let’s be honest. There’s not much to teach Logan now” he shared with gophnx.com. Cooley’s younger sister is Lauren Cooley. There is very limited information about her.
