Matthew Tkachuk serves as the alternate captain for the Florida Panthers of the NHL, as of 2025. He joined the USA Hockey National Development Program and later played one season for the London Knights (OHL). Tkachuk was drafted by the Calgary Flames with the sixth pick in the first round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.
Tkachuk made his NHL debut in the 2016-17 season and scored his first NHL goal against the Buffalo Sabres. Tkachuk helped the Florida Panthers reach the 2023 Stanley Cup Finals, where the Western Conference champions Vegas Golden Knights, defeated the Eastern Conference champions Florida Panthers. He has been named to the NHL All-Star Game twice and came in seventh place in the 2017 Calder Memorial Trophy voting.
