Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is a professional ice hockey forward and alternate captain for the Edmonton Oilers. He was selected first overall by the Oilers in the 2011 NHL Draft. Before that, he was the top pick in the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft and played with Red Deer, posting 106 points in the 2010–11 season. He had 52 points as an NHL rookie and was runner-up for the 2012 Calder Trophy. He also captained Canada at the 2013 World Juniors and was named the tournament’s best forward.

In 2013, Nugent-Hopkins had shoulder surgery and later signed a seven-year deal with Edmonton. He played in the 2015 NHL All-Star Game and adapted to a wing role alongside Connor McDavid in 2018. On April 5, 2023, he recorded his first 100-point NHL season, joining McDavid and Draisaitl to make the Oilers the first team in over 25 years with three 100-point players. He was the sixth player ever to reach 100 points for the first time in his 12th season or later.
