Tomáš Hertl is a Czech professional ice hockey forward for the Vegas Golden Knights in the National Hockey League (NHL). He was initially drafted 17th overall by the San Jose Sharks in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft and spent his first 11 seasons with the team. Before his NHL career, Hertl represented HC Slavia Praha in the Czech Extraliga. Notably, Hertl became the first player born in the modern Czech Republic after the dissolution of Czechoslovakia to appear in an NHL game. However, on March 8, 2024, he was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights.

Tomas Hertl's injuries

Tomas Hertl has sustained numerous injuries during his decade-long NHL career. His most recent setback occurred on February 12, 2024, when he suffered a lower-body injury during gameplay. Before this, on January 27, 2024, he was sidelined due to an undisclosed injury, further complicating his return to the ice. These incidents add to a list of past injuries, including a mid-body injury on November 27, 2023, and an ankle injury on November 21, 2019. However, on January 29, 2020, Hertl faced a significant lower-body injury, impacting his ability to contribute to his team's success.

Regarding his current injury, Hertl underwent knee surgery on February 12, 2024, to address soreness and remove loose cartilage from his left knee. This procedure forced him to miss several weeks of gameplay. Despite experiencing discomfort throughout the season, Hertl continued to play, including participating in the NHL All-Star Game in Toronto. However, after consulting with medical experts and his family, he opted for surgery to ensure a full recovery and return to peak form.
