Aerial Powers is an American professional basketball player playing for the Atlanta Dream in the WNBA as of 2024. She is known for her ability to play both small forward and shooting guard. Powers was selected as the 5th overall pick in the first round of the 2016 WNBA Draft by the Dallas Wings. She settled into the WNBA quickly and earned a spot on the WNBA All-Rookie Team. In 2018, Powers was traded to the Washington Mystics, where she had a breakout year as a two-way player in 2019. During the 2019 WNBA season, Powers was one of the key players who helped the Mystics win the 2019 WNBA Championship, defeating the Connecticut Sun in five games.

After her successful stint with the Mystics, Powers signed with the Minnesota Lynx as an unrestricted free agent in 2021, where she played until 2024. In 2024, she joined the Atlanta Dream. Outside of basketball, Powers has a passion for gaming. She competed in a Team Liquid Pro-Am Valorant tournament in 2020 and became a brand ambassador and streamer for Team Liquid in 2021. She also chairs Team Liquid’s Diversity & Inclusion Task Force. As of September 2024, Powers' WNBA career stats include averages of 10.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game.

Aerial Powers' college career at Michigan State University was a tale of resilience and determination. After facing a career-threatening Achilles tendon tear injury in her first year, Powers showed great spirit and tenacity to fight her way back to the court in her sophomore season and never looked back. During the 2013-14 redshirt freshman season, Powers became the first Spartan freshman ever to earn First-Team All-Big Ten honors. Her 26-point, 18-rebound effort in the NCAA Tournament First Round set a new Michigan State NCAA Tournament record. In the 2014-15 season, Powers elevated her game further, again earning First-Team All-Big Ten honors, as she finished the season with an outstanding 24 double-doubles, tying for first in the Big Ten and third in the NCAA. She also became the MSU single-season scoring leader and passed the 1,000-point milestone for her career during this season.

In the 2015-16 season, Powers earned First-Team All-Big Ten honors for the third consecutive season, as she became MSU’s all-time career and single-season leading scorer. Over her illustrious career at Michigan State, Powers accumulated career averages of 18.9 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game. She remains a Spartan legend with 47 career double-doubles and numerous accolades, including Player of the Year and Best Rebounder awards at team banquets in 2014, 2015, and 2016.

Aerial Powers High School

Aerial Powers had an outstanding high school basketball career at Detroit Country Day School, where she played under head coach Frank Orlando. Over her four-year career, Powers helped lead Detroit Country Day to four consecutive regional championships, including the 2009 Class B state title and a runner-up finish in 2010. She was a two-time Associated Press Class B Player of the Year and was named to the Detroit Free Press and Detroit News All-State Dream Team in her senior year.

Across her high school career, Aerial Powers averaged 17.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 3.1 steals, and 2.5 blocks per game. Nationally, she was recognized as a five-star prospect by Dan Olson's Collegiate Girls Basketball Report and by ESPN's HoopGurlz.
