The 6-foot-9 center, Brittney Griner was drafted as the first overall pick by the Atlanta Dream in the 2013 WNBA Draft. In 2014, Griner made the first-team All-WNBA and was named the Defensive Player of the Year. In her second playoff appearance in 2014, she averaged 16.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.4 blocks per game, shooting an impressive 62.7% from the field and leading the Mercury to their third WNBA title.

The ten-time All-Star has enjoyed a prestigious international career with Team USA where she was part of the team that won the 2016, 2020, and 2024 Olympics Gold medals. She is also a two-time FIBA World Cup winner in 2014 and 2018. Griner played college basketball at Baylor University from 2009 to 2013, competing in the Big 12 conference. In her junior year (2011–12), she led the Baylor Bears to an undefeated 40-0 season, the first and only perfect season in the program's history, as of 2025. Griner has earned a spot on the prestigious WNBA 25th Anniversary Team, announced in 2021. In 2025, Griner started playing in Unrivaled, a 3x3 basketball league. She plays for team Phantom in Unrivaled.
