Alexander Ovechkin is an ice hockey left winger and captain of the Washington Capitals as of May 2025. He began his career with Dynamo Moscow and has won the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy nine times as the NHL's top goal scorer. He was drafted first overall by the Capitals in 2004 and won the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year in 2006. Ovechkin has scored the most career goals (897) in NHL regular season history.

Ovechkin has won three Hart Trophies as league MVP and won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2018 when the Capitals captured their first Stanley Cup. He holds NHL records for most 40-goal seasons (13) and shares the 50-goal season record (9). He is the only player with 200+ goals in three decades and has won the Hart Trophy three times. Ovechkin was named one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players in 2017.
