Alexander Holtz

Alexander Holtz, born January 23, 2002, is a talented Swedish professional ice hockey forward who played for the Vegas Golden Knights in the NHL as of 2024. The New Jersey Devils drafted Holtz seventh overall in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.

Holtz began his hockey journey in Sweden, making his professional debut with Djurgårdens IF in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) at just 17 years old. He quickly gained attention by leading the J20 SuperElit league with 30 goals in 38 games. His impressive performances in the SHL became a stepping stone for big leagues like the NHL, where he joined the Devils' organization in 2021. In 2024, Holtz was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights, where he continues to play.

Alexander Holtz parents

Alexander Holtz is the son of Magnus and Camilla Holtz in Stockholm, Sweden. His father, Magnus Holtz is a former ice hockey player who played two seasons for Västerviks IK, instilling a passion for the sport in his sons. Alexander also has an older brother David Holtz who played hockey, and the siblings grew up engaged in the game. Magnus Holtz later became a coach at Nacka HK, and played an important role in Alexander's early development, mentoring him during his formative years. Holtz excelled at the U16 and J18 levels, averaging nearly two points per game despite often being younger than his peers. His performance earned him a spot on Stockholm South's team for the prestigious TV-pucken national junior tournament in 2017. He was awarded the Sven Tumba Award as the tournament's best forward.

One of Sweden’s rising hockey stars credits much of his success to the foundation laid by his supportive family. His father works for a computer company, and his mother Camilla Holtz owns a dinnerware retail store as per Athletics. Both his parents taught him the work ethic and encouraged Holtz to be determined to hockey.

Holtz has often emphasized how his parents influenced his mindset. “Stars aren't just given their skill; they cultivate it,” he once said via NY Times, reflecting on the values he learned at home. His father taught him the importance of persistence and focus, while his mother’s entrepreneurial spirit inspired him.

Alexander Holtz brother

David Holtz is Alex Holtz's older brother. David was born on July 26, 1996, in Sweden. David shares a strong hockey connection with his younger brother. Like his brother, David began his hockey journey with Boo IF, a youth club where both siblings honed their skills. David played as a center and shot left-handed.
