Bruce James Cassidy is a Canadian ice hockey coach and former player. He was a defenseman who played for the Ottawa 67’s in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) from 1982 to 1985. He was drafted 18th overall by the Chicago Black Hawks in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft. Cassidy’s best OHL season was in 1982–83, when he tallied 111 points, helping the team win the Memorial Cup in 1984. His NHL debut came in 1984, but frequent knee injuries limited his playing career. Cassidy spent much of his time in the minors, appearing in only 36 NHL games and scoring 17 points. He retired mid-season in 1996–97 to begin his coaching career.
