Jake Allen Guentzel plays for the Tampa Bay Lightning in the NHL as of February 2025. He was born on October 6, 1994, in Omaha, Nebraska. Guentzal grew up in Woodbury, Minnesota where he began his hockey journey with Hill-Murray School.

Guentzel was selected 77th overall in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins. After developing in the AHL with the Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins, he made his NHL debut on November 21, 2016, with a two-goal performance, against the New York Rangers. As of the 2024-25 season, Guentzal has scored 254 goals across 574 games.

According to Woodbury Magazine, Jake’s mother, Sally, was a volleyball player at Hibbing Community College before becoming the supportive matriarch of the Guentzel family. Sally has traveled extensively to watch her sons' games, from local matches to international events in Germany. Mike and Sally married in 1985 and settled in Woodbury, Minnesota, in 1995.

Jake Guentzel's Brother Ryan Guentzel

According to Fighting Irish, Ryan Guentzel is a retired professional ice hockey player. He was born on July 14, 1986, in Woodbury, Minnesota. He primarily played as a right-winger and had stints across the NAHL and USHL while actively playing at the University of Notre Dame. Notably, Ryan attended the same school as his brother Jake Guentzel.

Ryan won the NCAA (CCHA) Championship and the USHL Clark Cup Championship. He last played for EHC Klostersee in Germany during the 2011-2012 season. Ryan Guentzel transitioned into coaching soon after his playing career was over. He became an Assistant Coach at East Ridge High School between 2016 to 2018.

Jake Guentzel's Brother Gabe Guentzel

According to the official NHL website, Gabriel Guentzel primarily played as a defenseman. He was born on May 2, 1988, in Woodbury, Minnesota, and holds dual citizenship of both, the United States and Germany.

Gabe graduated from Hill-Murray High School in Maplewood, Minnesota, in 2006, with his later career taking him through various leagues while gaining valuable experience with multiple teams. He began his career at Colorado College where he earned titles such as the Bob Johnson Award as the Tigers' freshman of the Year. He continued to excel in his senior year scoring 28 points and was named to the All-Western Collegiate Hockey Association Second Team as a senior.

After successfully concluding his college career, he transitioned to a professional career, playing in leagues across Italy, Europe, Sweden, and Germany. Gabe won the Italian Championship playing for Rittner Buam in the 2013–14 season and received DEL2 Defenseman of the Year honors while playing for the Fischtown Pinguins in 2016. He last played for the Augsburger Panther in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL), the highest division in German ice hockey during the 2017-18 season. He retired soon after.

Jake Guentzel’s Wife

According to the official NHL website, Jake Guentzel is married to Natalie Guentzel. The couple has a son named Charlie. According to Omaha Athletics, Natalie is a graduate of Omaha Skutt Catholic High School and later attended the University of Nebraska where she earned a degree in Communications. After Guentzel's recent trade to the Carolina Hurricanes, Natalie and Charlie remained in Pittsburgh.
