Spencer Carbery, born on November 9, 1981, is the head coach for the Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League (NHL), as of April 2025. He began his junior playing career with the Peninsula Panthers in the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League in the 1999-2000 season and finished his college career at St. Norbert College in 2006. He turned professional in 2006, playing for the likes of the Tulsa Oilers and South Carolina Stingrays.
After retiring in 2010, Carbery transitioned to coaching, starting as an assistant coach for the Stingrays in the 2010-2011 season. He quickly advanced through roles in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL), Ontario Hockey League (OHL), and American Hockey League (AHL). In 2021, he was hired as an assistant for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Carbery was appointed head coach of the Washington Capitals on May 30, 2023.
