The Houston Rockets' small forward, Jae'Sean Tate, was born on October 28, 1995. After going undrafted in the 2018 NBA Draft, he signed with the Milwaukee Bucks for the Summer League, but he was sidelined by an injury. After graduating from Pickerington High School Central, the Ohio native Tate enrolled at Ohio State University in 2014; he was selected for the Big Ten All-Freshman Team in 2015. He averaged 12.3 points and 6.2 rebounds per game as a senior for a team that finished 25-9 in the NCAA Tournament. He was named to the Second Team All-Big Ten by the coaches, while he received honorable mention all-conference by the media.

In August 2019, Tate joined the Belgian Antwerp Giants. He joined the Sydney Kings of the Australian NBL for the 2019–20 season. He has participated in 296 games throughout his four NBA seasons, starting 153 of them, and averaged 8.3 points, 2.0 assists, and 4.1 rebounds as of April 2025. He was chosen for the 2019 Belgian Cup champions, the Belgian League All-Star team, and the Belgian League All-Offensive team. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2021 and the All-NBL First Team in 2020.

Who are Jae'Sean Tate's parents?

Jae’Sean Tate’s parents are Jermaine Tate and the late Cori Key. After his biological mother, Cori, was stabbed to death when Tate was eight years old, he was raised by Jermaine and his stepmother, Jenice, according to the Columbus Dispatch.

Who is Jae'Sean Tate’s mother?

Jae'Sean Tate’s mother is Cori Key. She graduated from northwest Ohio's Owens Community College in 2003. She was working at Flower Hospital in Toledo, had obtained her degree as a licensed practical nurse, and was pursuing a degree to become a registered nurse, as per the Columbus Dispatch. On the evening of July 31, 2004, she was discovered dead from a single knife wound to her chest in her apartment's bathtub. Almost three years would pass before her boyfriend, Damiene Boles, was convicted of murder and given a sentence of 15 to life in prison.

To celebrate her forthcoming 27th birthday, Cori Key had planned a trip to Toronto, and her mother, Deniese, had driven from Dayton to bring up Tate and his preschool-aged half-brother for a few days. She didn't, however, make it. A few days before Key's murder, Jermaine claimed to have spoken with her one last time, during which they talked about the need for her to distance herself from Boles, with whom she had an inconsistent relationship. After playing a professional basketball game in Chile, Jermaine saw that he had missed over a dozen international calls when he checked his phone. He contacted his agency, who advised him to call his mother, who informed him about Key. After receiving a three-week leave of absence from his team, he immediately returned to central Ohio to assist his son, who used to visit almost every weekend, in adjusting to his new life in Pickerington with Jermaine and his wife, Jenice.

Jae'Sean Tate was raised by Jermaine and Jenice, who took him in with their three younger children. His official biography from Ohio State names them as his parents, and they eventually assisted him in adjusting.
