Alexander Ovechkin is a Russian left winger and captain of the Washington Capitals. He was drafted first overall in 2004 by Washington. He scored two goals in his NHL debut on October 5, 2005, and won the Calder Trophy as top rookie in 2006 with 106 points. In 2007–08, Ovechkin scored 65 goals, the highest in the 21st century.

Ovechkin reached 1,000 career points on January 11, 2017, and passed Sergei Fedorov for the most NHL points by a Russian in 2019. On March 8, 2022, he tied Jaromir Jagr for third in NHL goals and played his 1,000th game with Nicklas Backstrom. Ovechkin broke the record for most goals with one team (787), passing Gordie Howe on November 5, 2022. He passed Wayne Gretzky for most road goals in NHL history (403) on November 22, 2022.

Alex Ovechkin's parents are Mikhail Ovechkin and Tatyana Ovechkina.

Mikhail Ovechkin was a professional soccer player for Dynamo Moscow. His career ended early due to injury, as per reports. He supported Alex’s hockey passion from a young age, often bringing him goalie helmets as gifts. Mikhail was present when Alex won the Stanley Cup in 2018. Mikhail Ovechkin passed away on February 15, 2023. The Washington Capitals honored him for his constant presence and support.

Tatyana Ovechkina is a former basketball player. She won two Olympic gold medals in 1976 and 1980 with the Soviet Union’s women’s team. She also won the 1975 World Championship and six European Championships. Her jersey number was 8, which is why Alex wears number 8.

Alex Ovechkin’s wife is Anastasia Shubskaya. They met in 2008 at the Beijing Olympics and married in 2016, as per People Magazine. Anastasia is a Russian model and has over half a million Instagram followers. Alex proposed to her while she was in the shower. They had a private wedding in Russia and a celebration in Moscow at Barvikha Concert Hall. She supported Alex when he broke Wayne Gretzky’s all-time NHL goal record.

Alex Ovechkin kids

Alex Ovechkin has two sons: Sergei and Ilya. Sergei is the older son, named after Alex’s late brother. Ilya is the younger son, born in 2020. Both children often appear with Alex and Anastasia at Capitals games and events. Alex has said he enjoys bringing his sons into the locker room, as per People Magazine.
