The Dallas Stars, originally known as the Minnesota North Stars, have been in the National Hockey League (NHL) since 1967. The team began as a six-team expansion before relocating to Dallas, Texas, citing financial struggles and poor performances by the North Stars. Notably, this period also marked their first and only Stanley Cup triumph in 1999.

The recent years have seen them make unsuccessful runs in the playoffs, with its last taste of silverware coming in the 2019-20 season, when it clinched the Conference Championships. Furthermore, it is led by captain Jamie Benn and head coach Peter Deboer. On the other hand, the American Airlines Center (AAC), serve as its home arena which it shares with the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

The Dallas Stars has a rich playoff history in the NHL. Since its relocation in 1993, it has made 20 playoff appearances. Notable successes include winning the Stanley Cup in 1999 and reaching the finals in 2000 and 2020. Moreover, it has consistently been a competitive force in the Western Conference, boasting five division titles between 1996 and 2001.

The Stars captured its first and only Stanley Cup in the 1998-1999 season, defeating the Buffalo Sabres in a thrilling six-game series. This victory solidified their place in NHL history and was a turning point in its history. Following its championship win, the Stars returned to the Stanley Cup Finals the next season. Although it fell short against the New Jersey Devils in 2000, its back-to-back appearances underscored its dominance in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

In 2020, the Stars made a remarkable run to the Stanley Cup Finals, defeating formidable opponents to claim the Western Conference title. Unfortunately, it ultimately fell to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the finals after winning the first game.

Dallas Stars Conference History

The Dallas Stars has won three championships, winning in the seasons 1998-99, 1999-00, and most recently in 2019-20. 1998–99, 1999–00, and most recently in 2019–20. . In the 1998-1999 season, they dominated the Western Conference, securing first place in the Pacific Division and ultimately winning the Western Conference title before clinching its first Stanley Cup championship. The following season, it again topped the Western Conference standings. In 2015-2016, led by Jamie Benn, it finished atop the conference during the regular season but was eliminated in the second round of the playoffs.
