He had an 11-year playing career with multiple teams, including the Red Deer Labels, Kootenay Ice, Lethbridge Hurricanes, Asheville Smoke, Austin Ice Bats, and Bisons de Neuilly-sur-Marne. He also had a five-year stint with the Alberta Golden Bears (presently the Alberta Golden Bears and Pandas), where he won a National Championship in 1999-00.
Kris Knoblauch began his coaching career in the 2006–07 season as an assistant coach for the Prince Albert Raiders in the Western Hockey League (WHL), before being named as the assistant head coach of the Kootenay Ice in the same league. His tenure there turned out to be a successful one as he led the team to an Ed Chynoweth Cup before moving on to the Erie Otters in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). Knoblauch's time with the Otters in the OHL was significant as he led the team to the OHL Championship and four consecutive 50-win seasons, a first in Canadian Hockey League history. He also received the Matt Leyden Trophy as OHL Coach of the Year in 2015–16. His NHL coaching career saw him be a part of the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers before landing his current job with the Oilers.
