The Hart Memorial Trophy is awarded each NHL season to the player judged most valuable to his team. It was first presented in 1923–24 as the Hart Trophy, donated by Dr. David A. Hart. The current version, renamed in 1960, replaced the original trophy after it was placed in the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Nathan MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche won the 2023–24 Hart Trophy. He posted a career-high 140 points (51 goals, 89 assists) in 82 games, leading the Avalanche to their seventh straight playoff appearance. MacKinnon received 137 first-place votes and became the third player in franchise history to win the award. He led the NHL in even-strength points, multi-point games, and shots on goal, and recorded two 19-game point streaks in one season—a league first.
