Chicago Bulls was the third franchise which was established in the city of Chicago, others being the Chicago Stags and the Chicago Packers. The Bulls turned out to be the most successful franchise for the city of Chicago and a savior for the NBA. They are the only team to three-peat twice in the NBA.

The Bulls had some good early success, making the playoffs nine times in 11 years. Their first playoff series victory came in the seventh attempt, defeating the Detroit Pistons in seven games. They struggled after 1975, making the playoffs twice in eight attempts. In the 1984 NBA Draft, fate of the franchise and the NBA changed when Michael Jordan was drafted by the Bulls.

The Bulls never missed the playoffs from 1985 to 1998, with their scouting and drafting being the main catalyst. They traded for Scottie Pippen in 1987, Horace Grant in 1987, Toni Kukoc in 1990, and B.J. Armstrong in 1989. The addition of Phil Jackson as the head coach in 1989 turned out to be the missing piece needed. Later in the early 1990s, acquisitions of John Paxson and Bill Cartwright added depth and experience to the roster.

The Bulls signed Dennis Rodman in 1995, adding an elite rebounder and defender to their roster. He later formed a trio with Jordan and Pippen to lead the Bulls to their second three-peat.
