He comes from a sports background as both his parents are tennis coaches, who worked at the Gunter Bresnik’s Academy in Vienna, Austria. They introduced Thiem to tennis at the age of six in Lichtenworth, which is a market town in Austria situated by the rivers Leitha and Warme Fischa.
