The youngster decided to move to Bordighera on the Italian Riviera to train under Riccardo Piatti and Massimo Sartori at the Piatti Tennis Center.


Sinner made his debut in the ITF Circuit in 2016 but did not achieve too much success as a junior. However, the Italian achieved significant success on the ATP level as a young professional. He won his first ATP Challenger title in 2019 at the age of 17 despite entering the tournament with no wins at that level. Jannik became the youngest Italian to win a Challenger Series title in history.


The Italian followed it up with a semifinal run at the European Cup and registered his first top 20 win over Frenchman Gael Monfils. He qualified for the 2019 Next Gen ATP Finals as the lowest seed and pleasantly surprised everyone with his brilliant performance at the event. He defeated the likes of Frances Tiafoe, Mikael Ymer and Miomir Kecmanovic en route to the finals and then outlasted Alex De Minaur in straight sets to lift the title. He was named the ATP Newcomer of the Year for having an exceptional season as a young professional.
