China's No. 1 WTA player, Qinwen Zheng, is a rising tennis star who achieved a career-high singles ranking of No. 7 in January 2024. She has won five singles WTA tour titles to date, including the 2023 Palermo Open and the 2023 Zhengzhou Open. She defeated Barbora Krejcikova in the final of the Zhengzhou Open. Zheng's most recent accomplishments include winning a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics defeating Donna Vekic from Croatia. With the win, she became the first player from Asia to win a gold medal at a singles event. She created history by breaking the winning streak of No. 1 Iga Swiatek in the semifinal of the Olympics.

Her best Grand Slam performance came at the 2024 Australian Open, where she reached her maiden major final. She lost to world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka in the final by 6-3, 6-2. Zheng defeated first-time semifinalist Dayana Yastremska in the semifinals and became the fourth player from China to reach the semifinals after Zheng Jie, Li Na, and Peng Shuai. She became the second player after Li Na to reach a Grand Slam final. She reached the quarterfinal of the 2024 US Open, where she lost to Sabalenka again.

After reaching her first WTA 1000 quarterfinals on clay at the 2023 Italian Open, Qinwen Zheng became the fifth player from China to break into the WTA top 20. She reached the finals of the 2023 WTA Elite Trophy, defeating Lin Zhu in the semifinals. In 2022, Zheng was awarded the WTA Newcomer of the Year. Zheng reached her first WTA final at the Pan Pacific Open and became the first Chinese teenager to reach a WTA Tour final. She reached the quarterfinal of the 2024 Dubai Tennis Championships and the 2024 Italian Open, where she lost to World No. 1 Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff, respectively.
