Staal made his NHL debut in the 2003–04 season with the Hurricanes and scored his first NHL goal against the Montreal Canadiens on October 10, 2003. Staal's career highlights include winning the Stanley Cup with the Hurricanes in 2006, earning a spot on the NHL YoungStars Game in 2004, and multiple selections to the NHL All-Star Games (2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2020, and 2018).
