Thanasis Antetokounmpo is a Greek professional basketball player signed with the Milwaukee Bucks. He is the older brother of superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, who also plays for the Bucks.

Basketball became a shelter for the Antetokounmpo brothers, as they steered through hardships in Greece. Thanasis began his basketball journey with Greek basketball club Filathlitikos along with Giannis. While he was initially overlooked due to his lanky frame, Thanasis was appreciated for his athleticism and dedication to become better.

Thanasis made his professional basketball debut for Filathlitikos in the Greek second division basketball in 2012. His defensive prowess and athleticism caught the eye of NBA scouts. His NBA journey has been filled with ups and downs as he constantly splits time between the G League and the NBA.

Thanasis Antetokounmpo is also known for his philanthropic efforts beyond the court and love for his family. The documentary “Giannis: A Marvelous Journey” provides an insight into the journey of the Antetokounmpo brothers.

After signing with the Knicks, Thanasis was assigned to the team’s G League affiliate the Westchester Knicks. Staying true to his recognition as a strong defensive player, Thanasis was named on the D League All-Defensive Second-team in 2015. He made a move back to the New York Knicks during the 2015 Summer League only to be waived. This fuelled a return back to the Westchester Knicks.

Thanasis then played overseas from 2016 to 2019 in Spain and Greece before signing with the Bucks in July 2019, reuniting with brother Giannis. At this point of time, Giannis was a superstar in the league.
