About US Open Tennis 2025
About
Originally called the United States Open Tennis Championships, the US Open is an international tennis competition that is regarded as the year's fourth and last Grand Slam. Every year, the most prestigious Wimbledon, the French Open, and the Australian Open, are followed by the big event.
Men's singles and men's doubles competitions were first held in August 1881 as part of the U.S. National Championships, one of the oldest tennis competitions in the world. From its start until 1914, the tournament was held in Newport, Rhode Island. It is the only Grand Slam that has not been derailed by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 or cancelled as a result of World Wars I and II.
Venues and Dates
The United States Tennis Association (USTA) owns and runs the competition. Every year, in Queens, New York City, the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, a stadium complex in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, hosts the tournament. There are 22 courts at the location of the US Championship tournament. The Arthur Ashe Stadium serves as the primary court and was named for the winner of the first US Open Championships, the first to allow professional competition. The competition will conclude on September 7th, with the opening round matches beginning on August 24th.
