Sloane Stephens ethnicity is African-American, given that her mother, Sybil Smith, is of the same descent. However, a few reports claim that her ethnicity is Trinidadian.

Currently ranked 30 in the world, Stephens career high ranking in singles was three in 2018. Stephens won the 2017 US Open and has amassed seven WTA Tour singles titles overall.

Stephens was introduced to tennis at a club in Fresno, California. Her parents were both active athletes with collegiate swimming and professional American football backgrounds. She received training at a tennis academy in Florida and developed into a promising young player, rising to the position of world No. 5 and winning the major girls' doubles title in 2010.

At the 2013 Australian Open, 19-year-old Stephens rose to prominence by beating Serena Williams in the semifinals. In 2016, she changed to Kamau Murray, who helped her win three WTA titles. A foot injury, however, put an end to her fruitful year.

She won the WTA Comeback Player of the Year award and the US Open singles title in 2017. She won her first Premier Mandatory title in 2018, advanced to the French Open final, got into the top 10, and finished runner-up at the WTA Finals.

Where is Sloane Stephens from?

On March 20, 1993, in Plantation (Broward County), Florida, Stephens was born to accomplished athletes Sybil Smith and John Stephens. Her mother was the first African-American woman in Division I history to be selected to the first team of All-American swimmers.

She is regarded as the best swimmer in Boston University history. Stephens' father was a Pro Bowl running back for the National Football League's New England Patriots, Pro Football Hall of Famer Raymond Berry regarded him as the best athlete he had ever seen.

After Stephens' father's numerous arrests in 1994, Smith split up with him. Stephens was brought up by her mother and Sheldon Farrell, her stepfather, who married Smith in 1997.
