Born in Lakeland, Florida, Killian Hayes is a French-American point guard who plays for the Detroit Pistons in the NBA. He has previously represented France in the 2017 FIBA U16 EuroBasket and the 2018 FIBA U17 World Cup. Hayes is the son of former Penn State standout and American Basketball Association (ABA) small forward DeRon Hayes.


Before the NBA, Hayes played professional basketball in France for the Cholet Basket, a french basketball club that competes in the LNB Pro A, the top league in France. He grew up playing for Cholet Basket at the youth level and represented the club in 37 games at the LNB U21 League, putting up 10.6 points, 4.7 assists and 1.9 steals.


Hayes made his professional debut at age 16 and played in the LNB Pro A for two seasons before signing a three-year deal with the ratiopharm Ulm of the Basketball Bundesliga in Germany. As part of his team, Hayes also competed in the 2019-20 EuroCup before the league suspended its operations in early march due to the pandemic.


Just days after the tournament was suspended, Hayes declared for the 2020 NBA Draft, where he was selected seventh overall by the Pistons.
