What teams did Mike Brown Coach?


In his long career, Mike Brown had donned many roles before becoming a coach. He was a scout and video coordinator at the Nuggets franchise. He started off with an assistant coach role at the Wizards and then with the Spurs, where he won his 1st NBA championship in 2003. Later Mike Brown played a vital role in the Pacers’ progress in the early 2010s with a conference finals appearance for the team.

Head coach at Cleveland Cavaliers (2005-2010): Laying the Foundation


Mike Brown's head coaching journey in the NBA began with the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he assumed the head coaching position in 2005. His tenure coincided with the rise of a young LeBron James, and together, they shaped the Cavaliers into a formidable force in the Eastern Conference.


Winning the Eastern Conference in 2006, LBJ and Mike Brown hocked the world. With no superstar other than prime James, the Cavs bettered many Eastern powerhouses behind James’ gameplay and Brown’s strategies. But they were outdone by the championship championship-experienced Spurs team.


Known for his defensive mindset, Brown instilled a culture of hard work and discipline in Cleveland. Under his guidance, the Cavaliers became one of the league's top defensive teams, earning the nickname "The Bad Boys of the Midwest." Brown's ability to create defensive schemes and get the best out of his players played a pivotal role in the Cavaliers' success during this era.


He did make his return to the franchise in 2013, and helped the rebuilding side to sustain in the East.


Los Angeles Lakers (2011-2013): Guiding Legends


After his tenure with the Cavaliers, Mike Brown moved to the Los Angeles Lakers. Winning 62% of games in his 1st season with the Lakers, Mike Brown took them to the conference Semis. But his stint at the Lakers came to an end the very next season after just 5 games.


After a season-long spell at the Cavs, Mike Brown chose to go for an assistant role again, where he was instrumental in Steve Kerr’s dynasty team Golden State Warriors. Winning 3 titles with the team, Mike Brown even acted as head coach in Steve Kerr’s absence during games.


Sacramento Kings (2022-current)


His impressive resume landed him a head coaching position again, this time with the Sacramento Kings. The California teams certainly suited Brown as he uplifted the team to a formidable force in the West, and finished the 2023 season topping the Pacific division.


Although he couldn’t overcome the championship hurdle as a head coach, Mike Brown is very respected as a head coach in the fraternity.
