The NBA Draft is a transformative phase on the basketball calendar. It is an opportunity for teams to select young and hungry talent, who could potentially become franchise players in the near future. While it is recognized to be a major turning point for teams, it may be a bigger turning point in the lives of athletes aspiring to play in the NBA as they get a chance to tread on the path towards basketball glory.

The draft commences with the identification and assessment of players who are deemed to be eligible to enter into the NBA draft. After this process, the franchises strategize in a bid towards securing the best prospect for their team.

An NBA team’s success in the draft is also dependent on luck as the draft order is determined on the basis of a lottery and the regular season record. The order of the draft is set to provide those teams that had a poor regular season performance with higher chances of landing the number one pick. In this manner, a maximum of 60 players are officially added to the league each year. While they make their picks at the time of the draft, teams can engage in pre-draft trades to place higher in the draft order or post-draft trades once each team has made their pick.

The NBA Draft Lottery will be held in Chicago at 3 PM Eastern Time.
